2026 Municipal Election

Municipal and school board elections in the Township of Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards will take place on Monday October 26, 2026.

If you're a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old, and you live, own, or rent property in Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards, you are eligible to vote or run for office.

Information for Voters

Elections Ontario maintains the Permanent Register of Electors for Ontario, also known as the “voters' list” or “register”. The voters' list contains information for individuals eligible to vote in provincial and local municipal elections in Ontario. Learn more about the voter's list on Election Ontario's Register to Vote page, including how to:

Use the Elections Ontario Register to Vote application to:

Confirm, update or add your name and home address
Search, add or remove a property other than your home address
Remove yourself from the register
Remove a deceased person from the register
Check the status of a request

If you or your spouse own or rent property other than your home address in Ontario, you might be eligible to vote in more than one municipal election.

School Support Designation

Whether you own or rent your home, your property is linked to a school board – even if you don’t have children or your children aren’t currently attending school. While you’re not required to make a designation, you do have the option to choose which school board you support. If you don’t make a choice, your support will default to the English-Public school board.

Your designation also helps determine how you’re listed on the Preliminary List of Electors, placing you on the correct voters list for the municipal and school board elections.

Homeowners and tenants should review their school support designations, and if needed, update them by June 1, 2026, to be accurately included on the Preliminary List of Electors ahead of the municipal and school board elections on October 26, 2026.

School Board Trustees

Prospective School Board Trustees should review the Education Act, 1990, as amended, in addition to the MEA and are encouraged to contact the office of the Director of Education of the appropriate School Board to obtain information on the duties and responsibilities of a trustee. Candidates for school board offices are encourages to contact the Director of Education of the respective school board or the Clerk responsible for the election of these portions.

See below a list of important dates to remember:

Friday, May 1, 2026 at 8:30am: Nomination Period Begins

First day to file a Nomination Paper for the offices of Mayor, Councillor and School Board Trustee, and first day to file a notice of registration as a third party advertiser.

Friday, August 21, 2026 from 9 am to 2 pm: Nomination Day

Deadline for candidates to file a nomination, withdraw a nomination, or change office.

Monday, August 24, 2026: Certification Day

The Clerk shall examine all filed nomination forms prior to 4:00 pm and if satisfied, certify the nominations. By 4:00 pm the Clerk is to declare candidate(s) elected by acclamation, if any.

Tuesday, September 1, 2026: Voters List

The voters list is made available to candidates, by request. Individuals may apply to the Clerk’s Office until close of voting on October 26, 2026, to have their name added to or removed from the voters’ list, or to update their information.

Friday, October 23, 2026: Close of Third Party Advertiser Registration Period

Last day to register as a third party advertiser.

Monday, October 26, 2026: Voting Day

Voting will take place in person from 9:00 am. to 8:00 pm. at 47 Mill Street Killaloe, Ontario. The Clerk will declare the results of the election and provide information to the public on the website.
